The Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society takes a “run eight” into its 2019-2020 season with a unique program by rail trail advocate, Craig Della Penna. He titles his presentation, TAILS FROM THE TRAILS; The Rail To Trail phenomena in the U.S. Craig is a Western Massachusetts man who spent years in the railroad industry prior to becoming pro active in the development of rail trails. The results of his efforts can be seen particularly in our region with numerous recreation trails existing where formerly weeds, rust and debris cluttered abandoned rail lines. Most are old B&M and NYNH&H branches, often featuring original bridges, stations and even mile markers. Craig is “piecing together” the Mass Central across the state with many then and now photos as that long gone route returns as a recreation trail.

Meeting location is Rogers Hall on Rogers St. in Lowell, Massachusetts. The meeting begins at 3:00PM. Free parking across the street. Items for sale include B&M RR labeled outer wear as well as various rail themed books, maps, DVDs and models.
